The Best UK Activity Centres for Youth Groups

The Best UK Activity Centres for Youth Groups

Whether it’s Scouts, Guides, Explorers or another kind of youth group, the opportunity to head out on an adventure is a hugely motivating experience for any young person.

From the Southern shores of England, to the mountains of Wales, there are plenty of places to explore as part of a youth group. Coach Hire Comparison can help get you there, you just need to decide where to go!

Brecon Beacons, Wales

Acorn Adventure offers the opportunity for groups of all sizes to camp out next to the largest natural lake in South Wales. From stand up paddleboarding on Llangorse Lake to caving or learning bushcraft skills at the remote lakeside wild camp, this varied activity programme has something for everyone.

Activities are limited to 90 minutes to allow everyone to make the most of the action-packed programme. There are 13 to choose from, so having enough time is optimum!

The location is pretty idyllic, too. Famous for its lakes, dramatic mountains and open countryside, the Brecon Beacons are already a popular location for youth groups. Acorn accommodation consists of an exclusive camping pod village - a little more comfortable for those not quite ready for the realities of ‘proper’ camping, just yet.

Osmington Bay, Dorset

Located in the heart of the Jurassic Coast, near Weymouth, Osmington Bay is one of PGL’s most popular activity centres, with breathtaking views across the sea and direct access to the beach.

It offers a huge variety of thrilling adventure activities plus hiking and beach walking for the explorers in your youth group. Abseiling, archery, fencing, a low-level ropes course and a sensory trail are just some of the activities you and your group can take part in. And when it’s time to hit the hay after a long day, your accommodation is a purpose-built chalet overlooking the sea.

Bruton, Somerset

This is an activity centre with a difference! Family run since its inception in 1982, Mill on the Brue offers outdoor activities up high and down low. Set in 25 acres of glorious Somerset countryside, there are over 40 activities to choose from.

Groups will receive an individually written programme for their stay, and most activities remain on site - which means you don’t spend your time travelling from activity to activity.

Schedules here can have an emphasis on teamwork and social skills and/ or the environment and conservation. Additionally, the programme can be linked to the Geography or History National Curriculum with a town or river study.

Glenbrook, Peak District

Nestled in the Hope Valley, this Girlguiding centre is perfectly placed for fun and adventure in the Peak District. With abseiling, archery, climbing and trail walks, there’s plenty to keep the group entertained here.

The location of this centre is the real drawing point, however. Close to Edale, and popular walking routes at Padley Gorge and Mam Tor, there’s loads to explore. There’s also an open-air swimming pool just a stone’s throw away in Hathersage, and Castleton caves and Peveril Castle close by.

Accommodation is varied, with everything from campsites with a view to comfortable indoor options, dependent on your group, there’s something for everyone.

Blackland Farm, Sussex

Situated in the picturesque Sussex countryside, Blackland Farm is a multi-purpose activity centre located on a 120-acre site. With woodland and grassed areas, the activities on offer here range from canoeing and climbing, to archery and abseiling. There’s even a thrilling zip line, too!

Accommodation ranges from green-field campsites to purpose-built holiday homes, and for groups looking to stay a little longer, nearby places include Winston Churchill’s former home at Chartwell and Hever Castle, where Anne Boleyn lived.
